Cleaning your coffee grinder or espresso grinder
Once you have correctly set up your grinder, cleaning and maintenance become simple. The easiest method to clean your coffee grinder or espresso grinder is to use Urnex Grindz, but we will also show you how to clean it manually.
Cleaning with Urnex Grindz
The simplest way to clean a grinder is to run Grindz through it every other month. The following instructions come from our partners at Urnex:
- Empty the grinder's bean container of old coffee and adjust the grind setting to 3-4 steps coarser.
- Add 35 grams of grinder cleaning tablets to an empty grinder.
- Grind the entire package through the grinder and dispose of it.
- Add 40 grams (about 4-5 tablespoons) of old coffee to the bean container.
- Grind the coffee to push out any remaining Grindz from the grinder and dispose of it.
Cleaning without Grindz
For cleaning without Grindz, we recommend the following tools: a can of compressed air, a brush, a clean and dry towel, and a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle attachment (optional).
- Remove the bean container and empty it of coffee beans.
- Use a clean and dry towel to wipe out the inside of the bean container. Avoid using a damp towel, as moisture in the grinder can cause the coffee to stick to the grinding discs and cause clogs.
- Use compressed air and a brush to clear the grinder of coffee residues and the grinding channel. Cover the top of the grinder with a towel to minimize the spread of coffee into the air.
- If you have a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle attachment, use it to clean loose coffee from the grinding discs, grinding channel, and work surface.
- Replace the bean container and open the bean container opening.
- Enjoy your recently cleaned grinder!
By following these steps, you can keep your coffee grinder or espresso grinder clean and in top condition, ensuring that you always get the best possible flavor experience from your coffee.
