Maintenance

How to look after your POP

A thermoblock machine, such as the Quick Mill Pop, Pegaso and Orione, heats the water as it passes through. It is quick to warm up but sensitive to limescale, so regular descaling is the most important maintenance. Here is the schedule and the products we recommend.

Good to know about the Quick Mill POP

Set the temperature in the menu

Coffee temperature is set between 40 and 105 °C and steam temperature between 130 and 140 °C. With the offset you can fine-tune to the actual temperature at the group.

Eco and standby

Eco and standby can be activated after 30, 60 or 90 minutes, or switched off with 0.

Brush the gasket every week

Clean the filter and portafilter daily and brush the group gasket at least once a week. Use soft water or a water softener.

  1. Every day
    • Wipe and purge the steam wand after every use
    • Rinse the portafilter and basket
    • Empty and rinse the drip tray
  2. Every week
    • Brush the group gasket and shower screen
    • Steam tip in milk system cleaner
    • Only backflush if the manual says so
  3. Every month
    • Soak the portafilters and baskets in cleaning detergent
    • Wash the water tank
    • Measure the water hardness if you change water source
  4. Every 1–3 months
    • Descale with Cafetto LOD
    • Replace the tank filter (every 2–3 months)
    • Replace the group gasket and shower screen (every 6–12 months)

Water and filters

The right water protects your machine

Thermoblocks have narrow channels, so even a little limescale reduces flow and heat. Descale regularly, every 1–3 months depending on the water hardness and how much you brew. Quick Mill specifies every 3–4 months for several models. Use a descaler for espresso machines, such as Cafetto LOD, never vinegar.
The target is 2–4 °dH. Measure the hardness with the BWT water test and use a filter in the tank, and the longer interval will be enough. Do not use distilled water.
