Cleaning schedule: daily, weekly, monthly

A simple schedule is all it takes for your machine to last for many years and your coffee to taste as it should. The intervals apply to home use; in an office or café, do the weekly tasks every day.

Every day

• Purge and wipe the steam wand after each use with a microfibre cloth.
• Rinse the portafilter and basket.
• Backflush with water (machines with a three-way valve).
• Empty the drip tray and knock box. Change the water in the tank.

Every week

• Backflush with detergent: Cafetto EVO cleaning powder.
• Soak the portafilters and baskets.
• Clean the steam tip in Cafetto MFC milk system cleaner.
• Brush the gasket and shower screen with a group head cleaning brush.

Every month

• Wash the water tank with warm water and a little washing-up liquid, then rinse thoroughly.
• Change the water in the boiler if the manufacturer recommends it (Rocket recommends at least once a month). See changing the boiler water.
• Unscrew the shower screen and dispersion block and soak them in detergent. See replacing the group gasket and shower screen.

Every 2–3 months

• Replace the in-tank water filter (water filter for the tank) or check the cartridge if the machine is plumbed in.
• Lubricate the cam in the E61 group. See The E61 group.

Every 6–12 months

• Replace the group gasket and shower screen. The gasket hardens and starts to leak; a new one is inexpensive and can be found on the spare parts page.
• Check the seals in the steam and hot water valves if they have started to drip.
