The grinder grinds about 2 grams of coffee per second, making it well suited even for intense situations where speed and precision are crucial.

Exact dosing with timer function

The M42M R Black is equipped with two programmable grinding times – one for a single espresso and one for a double. Dosing is controlled via a convenient switch labeled:

• T (Timer mode) – for preset single or double dose
• M (Manual mode) – for continuous grinding

In timer mode, one press of the red button delivers a single dose, two presses deliver a double dose. In manual mode, hold the portafilter against the button until the desired amount of coffee is ground.

The time setting is easily adjusted via the numbered dial (1–4) on the side of the outlet – the higher the number, the longer the grinding time.

Stepless grind size for optimal extraction

The grinder is equipped with 58 mm flat burrs, providing fast and even grinding as well as long durability. The grind size is adjusted steplessly via the dial on the top of the grinder, accessible from both front and back.

• Turn clockwise → coarser grind
• Turn counterclockwise → finer grind

A good guideline for espresso is about 25 ml in 25 seconds. Small adjustments are usually enough once the base setting is correct.

Generally:

• Higher proportion of arabica → slightly finer grind
• Higher proportion of robusta → slightly coarser grind

Capacity & bean hopper

The bean hopper holds 500 grams of espresso beans, which corresponds to about 50 espressos per full hopper. For best flavor, however, it is recommended to only fill the amount of coffee consumed within a few days to preserve aroma and minimize oxidation.

The bean intake is regulated with a flat shut-off plate that easily slides forward or backward. This makes it convenient to remove the hopper even when it contains beans – practical for cleaning or servicing.

Cleaning & maintenance

For internal cleaning:

1. Remove the bean hopper
2. Pour a dose of cleaning agent (e.g., grinder cleaner) into the grinding mechanism
3. Reattach the hopper
4. Grind until no residues are visible

Cleaning is recommended about once a month, depending on usage frequency.

The matte black finish is both aesthetic and practical – coffee spills and fingerprints are minimally visible, and the surface can be easily wiped damp without leaving streaks.
