How to look after your Encore ESP
A conical burr grinder, such as the Baratza Encore and Sette 30 or the Sage Smart Grinder Pro, is easy to look after: brush the spout, grind cleaning pellets regularly and occasionally lift out the ring burr and brush it. Here is the schedule and the products we recommend.
Good to know about the Baratza Encore ESP
The grinder must be running or completely empty of beans when you change the setting. Settings 1 to 20 are for espresso and 21 to 40 for filter and French press.
Once the parts have bedded in, the settings can drift so that you need a finer setting. According to Baratza, one shim shifts the grind by about five settings.
With daily use, the burrs should be brushed clean about once a month. Never wash them with water, as they will rust.

- Brush out the spout
- Empty ground coffee from the grounds bin or grinder
- Wipe the grinder with a dry cloth

- Empty the bean hopper and wash it by hand
- Check the dose with a scale

- Lift out the ring burr and brush the burrs
- Brush the grinding chamber and the spout
- Check that the scale is correct

- Replace the burrs when the grind becomes uneven
- Calibrate after replacement
- Run in new burrs with cheaper beans
