The story behind Casa Almeida Barreto - Brazil

This coffee comes from Casa Almeida Barreto, a family-owned farm in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Originally purchased for wine production, but with thriving coffee trees already in place, Jorge and Gabriel quickly realized that the coffee was too valuable to ignore. Today, they produce specialty coffee at the highest level – with a winemaker’s sense of terroir, fermentation, and detail.

With the help of stainless steel tanks and technology from the winery, the family has developed processes that preserve the aroma and character in every batch. The coffee is grown organically, though without certification, and processed with great respect for each lot’s unique expression.

The 2024 harvest was challenging – with severe drought and fewer cherries than usual. But thanks to the farm’s high altitude and soils rich in organic material, they were still able to create coffee with high sweetness and fine acidity. This batch is a clear example of scientific craftsmanship at its best.

Coffee's process

1. Origin

Casa Almeida Barreto is located at 1,200 meters altitude in Minas Gerais. The farm is divided into small lots based on terroir, sun exposure, altitude, and soil type – all to express the unique characteristics of each plot.

2. Harvest & Processing

The 2024 harvest was marked by extreme drought in Brazil. Despite this, the berries ripened slowly thanks to the cool nights. The natural process was chosen to preserve sweetness and body as some fermentation projects could not be carried out.

3. Drying & Technique

The beans were dried whole, in their fruit mucilage, using the same temperature control and hygiene standards required for wine production. This resulted in a coffee with deep flavor and silky body – even under tough conditions.

4. Roasting

This coffee is roasted for filter brewing, with a roast profile designed to highlight its creamy, chocolatey sweetness and balanced structure. A smooth, elegant cup for every brewing method.
