The story behind Banko Gotiti - Ethiopia

This washed coffee from Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, originates from the small village of Banko Gotiti. The coffee is grown by small-scale farmers on small plots of land, where coffee grows organically under shade trees such as Birbira, Wanza, and Acacia – in a climate that favors slow maturation and high bean quality.

The beans are processed at Huke Washing Station, a premium facility built by Testi Coffee, a family-owned company committed to traceability, quality, and sustainable relationships with farmers. Through their Premium Cherry Selection (PCS) program, farmers are rewarded for delivering only the ripest cherries – resulting in a clean, complex, and distinctive flavor profile.

The result is a coffee with a clear character, where every cup carries traces of care all the way from plant to cup.

Coffee's process

1. Origin

This lot comes from Banko Gotiti, part of the Yirgacheffe region in southern Ethiopia. About ten small-scale farmers have contributed to this coffee, grown at altitudes up to 2,100 meters above sea level.

2. Harvest & Processing

During the harvest season, up to 500 farmers deliver fresh coffee cherries daily to the Huke Washing Station. This specific lot has undergone a 48-hour controlled fermentation before being washed and dried on raised beds – a process that highlights the coffee's sweetness and complexity.

3. Roasting

The coffee is roasted for filter brewing, with a roast profile that preserves the floral, citrus-like, and tropical notes. The slow maturation at high altitude produces denser beans and a natural sweetness.

4. From soil to cup

This is a coffee with layers upon layers of flavor – orange peel, bergamot, black tea, and tropical fruit – reflecting every step of the production, from the farmers' work to the final sip in the cup.
