The story behind Ismael Quinteros - Guatemala

Ismael Quinteros Orantes is a third-generation coffee grower in Santa Rosa, Guatemala. Coffee has been a part of his family’s life for nearly 60 years, with roots tracing back to Ismael’s grandfather. What began as an experiment with both sugarcane and coffee quickly developed into a lifelong commitment to coffee cultivation when the family realized coffee’s long-term potential.

As a child, Ismael followed his father in working on the farm and learned early on the basics of planting, care, and harvesting. These experiences shaped not only his professional skills but also his passion for the craft. Today, he combines traditional knowledge with a clear ambition to grow as a producer.

The path has not been easy. Labor shortages during harvest season, the threat of coffee rust, and increasingly extreme weather conditions due to climate change pose constant challenges. Despite this, Ismael has managed to improve the quality of his coffee, increase profitability, and reach international markets. His goal is to continue refining his process and one day meet the roasters and coffee drinkers who appreciate his coffee around the world.

The coffee's process

1. Origin & Producer

The coffee is grown by Ismael Quinteros in Santa Rosa, Guatemala, at an altitude of 1,760 meters. The cool high-altitude environment contributes to slow maturation and the development of soft, nuanced flavors.

2. Process

The coffee is washed, resulting in a clean and clear cup where fruity and chocolatey notes emerge with high clarity and balance.

3. Brewing

Roasted for filter brewing. Excellent for hand filters like V60 and Kalita, but also works very well in electric brewers where its silky body and mild fruitiness shine.
