The story behind Banko Gotiti - Ethiopia

This washed coffee from Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, originates in the small village of Banko Gotiti. The coffee is grown by small-scale farmers on small plots of land, where coffee grows organically under shade trees such as Birbira, Wanza and Acacia – in a climate that favors slow ripening and high bean quality.

The beans are processed at the Huke Washing Station, a premium facility built by Testi Coffee, a family-owned company committed to traceability, quality and sustainable relationships with growers. Through their Premium Cherry Selection (PCS) program, farmers are rewarded for delivering only the ripest berries – resulting in a clean, complex and distinct flavour profile.

The result is a coffee with a clear character, where each cup bears traces of care all the way from plant to cup.

Coffee's process

1. The Origin

This lot comes from Banko Gotiti, part of the Yirgacheffe region in southern Ethiopia. Around ten small-scale farmers have contributed to this coffee, grown at altitudes up to 2,100 meters above sea level.

2. Harvesting & processing

During the harvest season, up to 500 growers deliver fresh coffee berries to the Huke Washing Station daily. This particular lot has undergone a 48-hour controlled fermentation before being washed and dried on raised beds – a process that highlights the sweetness and complexity of the coffee.

3. Roasting

The coffee is roasted for filter brewing, with a roast profile that preserves floral, citrusy and tropical nuances. The slow ripening at high altitude results in denser beans and a natural sweetness.

4. From soil to cup

This is a coffee with layers upon layers of flavor – orange peel, bergamot, black tea and tropical fruit – that reflects every step of production, from the growers' work to the final pull in the cup.
