The M42M R Black is an on-demand coffee grinder from Macap with a built-in timer for perfect dosing of freshly ground coffee every time. The grinder has two grinding time programs, single/double, which are adjusted with high precision using the stepless adjustable grind size; continuous grinding is also available. The M42M R Black can grind 2 grams of coffee per second, making it well suited for stressful situations. The M42M R Black is equipped with an easily accessible power switch to the right of the outlet for easy on and off, next to the power switch there is also a switch marked with T (timer) and M (manual).
The M42M R Black has a medium-sized bean hopper, space for 500 g of espresso beans, which means that you can practically grind coffee for about 50 espressos per filled grinder, however, it is not recommended to fill the entire bean hopper. Only fill the grinder with an amount of coffee that you will consume in the near future (a few days), this is to prevent the coffee and its aromas from being unnecessarily oxygenated.
The sleek design of the M42M R Black makes it fit very well next to any type of espresso machine. The matte black surface is both practical and aesthetically pleasing as traces of ground coffee are barely visible on the grinder's body, which means that external cleaning is not needed very often. When the M42M R does need external cleaning, damp wiping can advantageously be used without leaving visible streaks thanks to the surface coating.
The intake of espresso beans on the M42M R Black is adjusted with a flat plate that can easily be pulled away from or towards the grinder. If you want to remove the bean holder from the M42M R Black but there are still espresso beans inside, you can push in the flat plate so that it covers the entire opening and then twist the bean holder upwards. This can advantageously be done if you want to clean the grinder or suspect that a problem has occurred in the grinder mechanism.
To clean the M42M R Black, the bean holder should be removed and a dose of Pulygrind should be poured into the grinder mechanism. Then place the bean holder back in place. Grind out the Pulygrind crystals together with coffee until no crystals come out of the grinder mechanism; a couple of portions are usually required. Cleaning should be done about once a month, but this naturally depends on how much the grinder is used.
M42M R Black is equipped with flat burrs of 58 millimeters in circumference that provide short grinding times and long durability. The coffee grinder's grind size can be continuously adjusted using a knob located at the neck of the grinder. You can access the knob from both the right and left on the front and back. If you want to adjust, turn the knob little by little. Turning clockwise makes the coffee coarser ground, and turning counterclockwise makes the coffee finer ground. Keep in mind that the more arabica you have in your coffee blend, the finer you usually want the coffee ground to achieve the best possible result. Consequently, the opposite applies for robusta. If the M42M R Black coffee grinder is reasonably well adjusted, usually only a small change is needed. To check when the coffee grinder is correctly adjusted, you can grind coffee for an espresso and then brew it. Experiment until the espresso brews at the right pace in the right time, 25 milliliters in 25 seconds is the target.
The time setting is determined with the small wheel on the right side of the outlet marked with 1-4. The higher the number, the longer the time. If the switch (T/M) is set to T (time setting), one click on the red button indicates a single dose and two clicks a double dose. If the switch is set to M (manual), you should hold the portafilter against the red button until the desired dose is achieved.
M42M R Black belongs to the M42 series from Macap, which is intended for semi-professional use. M42M R is the step below M42D RV. M42D RV has a higher price tag because it has a digital display that simplifies the adjustment of the grinder as well as the possibility to mount a filter holder support and coffee press. M42D RV is also equipped with LED lights directed down into the portafilter. This model is well suited for those who like to experiment with the grinder. M42M R is the more stripped-down model that suits those who just want to be able to grind really good coffee without having to fiddle with it.
