Coffee Lemonade – Summer's Most Unexpected Drink! | Barista & Espresso

Fresh. Caffeinated. And unexpectedly addictive.

When the temperature rises and the coffee craving persists – why not try something completely new? Coffee lemonade is exactly what it sounds like: a tart, bubbly lemonade meets invigorating coffee. The result? A refreshing, lively drink with a perfect balance between bitterness and freshness.

It's alcohol-free from the start, making it perfect for any occasion – but it can also be easily transformed into an elegant summer cocktail. A sure hit at picnics, barbecues or as a welcome drink at summer parties.

🧊 Classic Coffee Lemonade for 4 people (approx. 1.5 liters)

Ingredients:

  • 4 dl freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 5–6 lemons)

  • 6–8 tablespoons sugar syrup (adjust to taste)

  • 2 dl cold espresso or strong brewed coffee

  • 6 dl cold carbonated water or soda water

  • Ice (lots of ice!)

  • Garnish: lemon slices, fresh mint

How do you do it?:

  1. Squeeze the lemons and pour the juice into a large jug.

  2. Add the sugar syrup and stir. About until it is dissolved.

  3. Pour in the cold espresso.

  4. Add ice and turn on the carbonated water just before serving.

  5. Taste – adjust sweetness or strength if necessary.

  6. Garnish with lemon slice and mint.

🍨 Creamy coffee lemonade – dessert in a glass

Want to make it extra luxurious, like in the picture? Try this variation with lemon cream/cream for a sweeter and rounder taste:

Addition:

  • 1 dl lemon cream (e.g. lemon curd mixed with a little whipped cream or milk)

  • Whipped cream or vanilla foam for topping

  • Optional vanilla ice cream (for a float effect)

How do you do it?:

  1. Follow the basic recipe above, but reduce the amount of carbonated water to 4 dl.

  2. Lightly whisk the lemon cream and stir into the lemonade.

  3. Top with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  4. Garnish with mint and lemon slice – serve with a spoon and straw!

🍹 Non-alcoholic or festive?

Alcohol-free: Perfect as a refreshing drink throughout the day.
Festive version (4 people):

  • Add 12–16 cl vodka, or

  • 8 cl vodka + 8 cl limoncello for a more complex taste
Stir in the liquor before adding the soda water and ice.

💡 Serving tips:

  • Freeze coffee in ice cubes to avoid a diluted taste.

  • Make ice cubes with lemon zest, mint or edible flowers.

  • Serve in a gold-rimmed glass or coupe glass for a luxurious feel.
