Step 2: Checking Water Quality & Filling with Water
- Test Water Quality:
- Before filling the machine with water, test its hardness. The water should be soft, around 50 ppm.
-
NOTE! It is important that you do not use tap water that has a high hardness level. It forms scale deposits in the machine and can cause functional damage internally!
- Fill the Water Tank:
- Remove the water tank from the back of the machine.
- Wash the water tank and fill it with filtered fresh water to the maximum level indicated.
- Properly place the tank back into the machine.

Choosing Water Filtration for Your Espresso Machine
There are different types of filtration systems. What is most important is that harmful minerals such as calcium should be filtered out before it reaches the espresso machine. The most common type is that the filter replaces calcium in the water with magnesium, which also makes the coffee taste better. Here is a quick guide for different options you can use:
- Internal water filter in the water tank lasts for about 2-3 months
- BWT water filtration system.
Step 3: Start Your Machine
- Connect and Start:
- Check that the steam valve is closed and that the machine is off.
- Connect the machine directly to a power outlet and turn on the machine.
- Fill the Boiler:
- About the machine displays "FIL", press the shot button and let water flow through the group head for at least 35 seconds.
- Fill the machine's boiler by pressing the shot button (the top button). You may need to fill the water reservoir during or right after this process.
- After about 35 seconds, you can turn off the shot button. The display should change from "FIL" to "UP" (warming mode).
- Warming:
- Let the machine reach operating temperature for 10-15 minutes (or until the pressure gauge reaches 1.0-1.25 bar).

Step 4: Start Brewing
- Prepare the Machine:
- Place the portafilter in the machine to let it warm up before brewing.
- Grind Your Coffee:
- Use freshly ground coffee for the best results. Aim for a fine Grind.
- About you do not have an espresso grinder. See our guide About for choosing a coffee grinder.
- Prepare the Portafilter:
- Fill the portafilter with the right amount of coffee and tamp it down. Insert the portafilter into the group head and lock it in place. We recommend 18-20g of coffee for a double espresso.
- Brewing:
- Place your cup under the portafilter. Press the shot button to start the extraction and aim for an extraction time of about 25-30 seconds.
- It is recommended to use a scale and a timer for this step.
Step 5: Froth Milk
- Froth Milk:
- Purge the steam wand by briefly opening the steam valve.
- Dip the steam wand into a pitcher of cold milk. Open the steam valve and texture the milk until you achieve a creamy microfoam.
- Clean the steam wand immediately after use with a microfiber cloth.
Maintenance Tips
- Daily Cleaning:
- Flush the group head before and after each shot. Wipe down the steam wand and portafilter.
- Weekly Cleaning:
- Backflush the machine with water and a blind filter. Use a cleaning solution to ensure all internal components remain free from coffee oils and residues.
By following these steps, you will be able to enjoy your perfect espresso with your new Profitec GO!
