Step 2: Check Water Quality & Refill Water

  1. Test water quality:
    • Before filling the machine with water, test its hardness. The water should be soft, around 50 ppm.
    • NOTE: It is important that you do not use tap water that has a high degree of hardness. This will form limescale deposits in the machine and can cause internal damage that will impair its functionality!

  2. Fill the Water Tank:
    • Remove the water tank from the back of the machine.
    • Wash the water tank and fill with filtered fresh water to the maximum level indicated.
    • Place the tank back into the machine properly.

The picture shows the location of the water tank.

Choosing water filtration for your espresso machine

There are different types of filtration systems. The most important thing is that the harmful minerals such as calcium are filtered out before they reach the espresso machine. The most common type is that the filter replaces the calcium in the water with magnesium, which also makes the coffee taste better. Here is a quick guide to different options you can use:

  • Internal water filter in water tank lasts approx. 2-3 months
  • BWT water filtration system.

Step 3: Start Your Machine

  1. Connect and Start:
    • Check that the steam valve is closed and that the machine is turned off.
    • Connect the machine directly to an electrical outlet and start the machine.
  2. Fill the Pan:
    • About machine displays "FIL", press the shot button and let water flow through the group head for at least 35 seconds.
    • Fill the machine's boiler by pressing the shot button (top button). You may need to refill the water tank during or immediately after this process.
    • After approximately 35 seconds, you can turn off the shot button. The display should change from “FIL” to “UP” (heating mode).
  3. Heating:
    • Let the machine come up to operating temperature for 10-15 minutes (or until the pressure gauge reaches 1.0-1.25 bar).

Step 4: Start brewing

  1. Prepare the Machine:
    • Place the portafilter in the machine to allow it to warm up before brewing.
  2. Grind Your Coffee:
    • Use freshly ground coffee for best results. Aim for a fine Grind.
    • About you don't have an espresso grinder. See our guide About choice coffee grinder.
  3. Prepare the Portafilter:
    • Fill the portafilter with the correct amount of coffee and press it in place. Insert the portafilter into the group head and lock it in place. We recommend 18-20g of coffee for a double espresso.
  4. Bridge:
    • Place your cup under the portafilter. Press the shot button to start the extraction and aim for an extraction time of around 25-30 seconds.
    • It is recommended to use a scale and a timer for this step.

Step 5: Skim Milk

  1. Skimmed Milk:
    • Clear the steam pipe by briefly opening the steam button.
    • Dip the steam wand into a jug of cold milk. Open the steam valve and texturize the milk until you get a creamy microfoam.
    • Clean the steam wand immediately after use with a microfiber cloth.

Maintenance tips

  1. Daily Cleaning:
    • Flush the group head before and after each shot. Wipe the steam wand and portafilter.
  2. Weekly Cleaning:
    • Backflush the machine with water and a blind filter. Use a cleaning solution to ensure all internal components remain free of coffee oils and residue.

By following these steps you will be able to enjoy your perfect espresso with your new Profitec GO!
